SUMMARY:Fife Climate Knowhow
DESCRIPTION:Our two-part Fife Climate Knowhow course shares all you need to know about the climate emergency and how it can affect our lives. \nWorkshop 1: Climate Science & Justice – Tuesday 16th June\, 10am–2pm \nWorkshop 2: Climate Action & Conversations – Tuesday 23rd June\, 10am–2pm \nThis two-part programme of workshops in June supports you to: \n\nLearn together about the science behind climate change by taking part in a Climate Fresk collage\nReflect on the local and global impacts of climate change and the importance of climate justice\nFind tangible ways to reduce your carbon emissions and start your own climate action plan\nDiscuss our society’s climate silence and develop tools for talking to people about climate change\n\n“I really enjoyed the collaborative nature of the Climate Fresk. Was good to learn and put that knowledge into context.” Fife Climate Knowhow participant\, February 2026 \nThe course includes presentation-style learning\, as well as plenty of opportunities for group discussions\, and climate related games and activities. We know that directly confronting climate change and its effects can be emotional. We set aside time for personal reflection throughout and encourage you to take additional breaks whenever you need. \nLunch and refreshments will be provided. \nBy booking you confirm that you plan to attend both workshops. \nBecome Carbon Literate!\n“I was surprised to learn all the simple\, everyday ways we can make changes to do ‘our bit’ and reduce our own carbon footprint.” Fife Climate Knowhow participant\, February 2026 \nOur Fife Climate Knowhow course meets the Carbon Literacy Project Standard. By attending the two workshops and completing a short form you can become certified as Carbon Literate. Being Carbon Literate means gaining the knowledge\, confidence\, and practical skills to reduce your own carbon footprint\, and inspiring and influencing others to do the same. There is no cost to you if you wish to become Carbon Literate\, and we can support you through the short process. \nWho Should Attend?\nPolling shows the majority of Scots are concerned about climate change and are aware of its risks to Scotland. However\, it can be difficult to identify what we can do as individuals\, know where to find trustworthy information\, or the support needed to act. That’s where the Fife Climate Knowhow course comes in! \nThis course is for everyone living\, studying or working in Fife. You don’t need any prior knowledge or understanding of climate change. Everyone who attends will learn something new\, both from the course itself and through group discussions with other participants. \nPlease let us know of any support you may need to be able to take part in this course. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nBy booking you confirm you plan to attend both sessions.  \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Support can be provided on request. \nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. There is a ramp into the building and level access throughout. From toddlers to teens and adults\, everyone can join in and make a positive difference. \nThis event is planned with kids in mind\, so the pace of the walk and litter-picking will be adjusted to little participants. Seafield Tower will be the end point where participants can rest\, enjoy a snack\, and hopefully spot seals relaxing on the rocks\, before returning to the car park. \nThe walk itself is child‑friendly\, but the rocks around the tower and the nearby coastline are very uneven. Children must remain under close adult supervision in this section\, especially if they climb onto the rocks to get a better view of the seals. \nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this event is weather-dependent. In the event of forecast adverse weather\, Greener Kirkcaldy staff will decide whether to go ahead with the walk the day before. We will contact attendees via phone and email if the walk cannot go ahead. \nDress for the outdoors – wear appropriate shoes and clothing. Bringing water and light snacks for young kids is advised as well. As this event is organised with children in mind\, dogs are not permitted. \nLitter pickers\, high‑vis vests for kids\, bin bags\, and children’s gardening gloves will be provided. Disposable gloves will be available for adult participants\, but you’re welcome to bring your own gardening gloves if you prefer. \nBooking Instructions\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility information\nThere are accessible parking spaces on site. The area covered during the event will be mostly flat\, with one or two slightly steeper sections. This route is accessible for more robust buggies and wheelchairs; lightweight strollers may find some areas challenging \nToilets are available nearby at Morrisons or slightly further at the East Basin Car Park at the end of the prom. \nPlease let us know of any accessibility requirements when booking

SUMMARY:Pick-up a fruit tree at Orchard Blossom Day
DESCRIPTION:Join Climate Action Fife’s A Fruit Tree for Every Garden in Fife campaign. Pick-up a tree to take away and plant at home in your garden. We will have a limited number of trees so please book to avoid disappointment. We will have a mix of apple\, plum and pear trees but we cannot guarantee which ones will be available on the day. \nYou can also join us at the Orchard Blossom Day picnic from 12pm – 3pm. Bring some lunch and a blanket and celebrate Greener Kirkcaldy’s blossoming orchard. \nPlanting a tree in your garden is one of the best ways to cut your garden’s carbon footprint. Plus\, you will have free\, fresh and delicious fruit in years to come. Fruit trees can live for 50-100 years and will provide habitat for wildlife and a beautiful addition to your garden. \nOur staff will be on hand to talk to you about your tree and will make sure you know how to plant it. You can also pick-up a stake\, tree-tie and tree guard to protect your new tree. Leaflets and guidance on how to plant and care for your tree will also be available. \nIf you are able to\, bring a plastic carrier bag or bin liner to take your tree home in. Most of the trees are in pots. You may be given a bare-root tree (not in a pot) if so\, you will need to plant it as soon as possible. If you are given a bare root tree and cannot plant it straight away you will need to have a place to dig it into the soil to keep its roots protected from drying out or frost. \nThis event will take place at Ravenscraig Walled Garden in Kirkcaldy. \nPlease do not book to collect a tree at more than one event or if you received a tree from us in a previous year. \nBooking Information\nThis event is free but booking is required. SUMMARY:Soil health and compost workshop with Dr. Liz Lakin
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered why some plants grow well in one part of your garden but not in others\, or why your friend in a different part of Fife can grow blueberries without any problem and you really can’t? \nHere’s your chance to find out! Success in your garden is often down to working effectively with what you have\, which means knowing about your soil and how to work with it. \nIn this climate friendly garden workshop\, we explore the role of soil in any productive garden and highlight the importance of testing your soil before adjusting nutrient levels. \nYou will be introduced to different types of soil and given an opportunity to test your own\, thereby assessing its pH and nutrient value. Healthy soils play an important role in slowing climate change by storing carbon\, which is the main component of organic matter. \nHealthy plants need healthy soils that are abundant with life. A compost-rich soil has an improved structure\, absorbing\, retaining and draining water as needed. Adding compost boosts nutrients and feeds the organisms living in the soil. \nDuring the workshop we explore composting from the very basics through to a range of ways of achieving sustainable compost that is rich in organic matter and avoids the use of peat and peat-based products. \nThe workshop will be led by Dr. Liz Lakin and is made possible through a grant from the Fife Climate Hub Seed and Development fund. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. There is a ramp into the building and level access throughout. There is also an accessible toilet. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions or would like the resources at the event to be in large print please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.
