SUMMARY:Dr Bike at Ravenscraig Walled Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Bring your cycle along for free checks and minor adjustments and repairs. \nOn the 30th of July\, Lang Toun Cycles will be at Ravenscraig Walled Gardens to run a Dr Bike session at the Greener Kirkcaldy Community Gardens Open Day. Learn more about the open day here. \nAt Dr Bike sessions\, experienced mechanics check everything on your cycle from wheels\, brakes\, gears and tyre pressure to lights\, racks\, pedals\, saddles and more. Any minor adjustments we can make\, we do there and then. This may include free replacement of minor wear and tear components where possible. \nFor more complicated repairs that we can’t fix on site\, we will let you know exactly what needs to be done and give you a rough idea of what it should cost at a bike shop. \nA “Dr Bike health report” will be supplied to customers afterwards. \nThere is no need to book a place\, just bring your cycle along anytime between 12:30pm and 3:30pm on the 30th of July 2022. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, you can email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk or call 01592 858 458. \nHow to get there\nThe gates to the garden are located at the Dysart end of Ravenscraig park; on the corner of Dysart Road and West Quality Street. You will see the opening into Ravenscraig Park. Just next to this are two green metal gates beside a red brick wall and a sign ‘Ravenscraig Walled Garden’ – that is the entrance to our garden. Go through the green gates and follow the path around to your right past the car park. Keep to the right and you will see a big space with lots of allotments. If you look to the left\, you will see a green ‘cabin’ with a polytunnel and raised beds. That is our base.

DESCRIPTION:Be part of tackling climate change – join us at our monthly climate cafes for films\, guest speakers and discussions. \n\n\nFrom food choices to toiletries\, clothes to gadgets\, what we bring into our homes\, gardens and lives\, many of the things we buy and use contain plastic. SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Café: A Simpler Way
DESCRIPTION:Be part of tackling climate change – join us for monthly films\, guest speakers and discussions.\n\n\nThis month we will be hosting an online event: a screening of the 2016 award-winning film\, A Simpler Way: Crisis as Opportunity\, followed by an online discussion. \n\nWhilst we are living in a time of crises – from the climate emergency to the covid pandemic – we also have the opportunity to change the way we live to the benefit of our community and our environment. A Simpler Way follows a community who came together to explore and demonstrate a simpler way to live in response to crises. Throughout the year the group build tiny houses\, plant organic veg gardens\, practice simple living\, and discover the challenges of living in community. \nThe film documents the community’s learning process as well as exploring the global issues we’re facing\, through interviews with some of today’s most interesting speakers on the subjects\, including permaculture co-originator David Holmgren\, filmmaker and activist Helena Norberg-Hodge\, climate change activist David Spratt and many more. \nThis film provides inspiring answers to some of today’s questions: What does living sustainably really mean? What is it we are trying to protect and at what cost?  And what might a responsible\, regenerative and resilient community look like? \n  \n\nhttp://https://vimeo.com/163775375 \n\n  \nBooking Information \nThe film showing and discussion is free but booking is required as places are limited. \nWe’ll send out a joining link to attendees to allow them to join a couple of days before the event. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Putting our town centre stage: Greener Kirkcaldy Annual Gathering and AGM
DESCRIPTION:Our Annual Gathering & AGM is moving online this year! \nContinuing the conversation we started at our Kirkcaldy After Lockdown event in July\, our gathering this year will focus on ‘towns’ – why they’re so important\, and how we can put our town centre stage. \nWe’re thrilled to announce our key speaker for the evening will be Phil Prentice\, Chief Officer of Scotland’s Town Partnership and National Programme Director of Scotland’s Improvement Districts. With 25 years’ economic development experience across the public and private sectors\, Phil’s role as Chief Officer is to drive sustainable change through collaboration and partnership. Love Oor Lang Toun is a collective of local people who want to create a 21st century town centre people will be proud of and want to spend time in. Working in Kirkcaldy since March this year\, they’ve already carried out a range of projects to support\, develop and promote the town centre. Cara will talk about what they’ve done so far\, and what they have planned coming up. \nOur speakers will be followed by a short Q&A and discussion. \nChair of our Board\, Christine May\, will also give an update on Greener Kirkcaldy’s activities and achievements since April 2019 and outline some of our future plans\, including those described in our recent Strategic Plan Review. \nOur gathering will be followed by our AGM\, which will include an election of the Greener Kirkcaldy Management Committee. View our AGM agenda and papers here. \n  \nBooking Information\nThis event is free\, but booking is required as spaces are limited. Our annual gathering is open to anyone\, however only members will be invited to stay and vote in our AGM. Sign up to become a member here. \nThe event will take place on Zoom. SUMMARY:Kirkcaldy After Lockdown
DESCRIPTION:Let’s act as if we own the place! Share your views on what post-lockdown Kirkcaldy\, and Greener Kirkcaldy’s future plans\, should look like. \nWhat should our town\, and our community\, be like after the Covid-19 crisis is over? We want to hear your views on what post-lockdown Kirkcaldy and Greener Kirkcaldy’s future plans should look like. \nJoin our free online event\, in partnership with new Kirkcaldy group\, Love Oor Lang Toun\, to take part in this conversation. \nWe’ll hear from local speakers – Christine May\, Chair of the Greener Kirkcaldy board\, Cara Forrester from Love Oor Lang Toun\, and Allan Crow\, editor of the Fife Free Press and creator of their new ‘Civic Conversation’ series – on what they think Kirkcaldy’s ‘next normal’ should be. \nWe’ll also be joined by guest speaker\, Matt Baker from Midsteeple Quarter\, a Community Benefit Society in Dumfries\, who’ll talk about their innovative and exciting regeneration work\, enabling local people to help shape a prosperous\, compassionate and vibrant Dumfries town centre for the future. \nOur speakers will be followed by a short Q&A and then small discussion groups where you’ll have the chance to share your thoughts and ideas on what you love about Kirkcaldy\, what you’d like to see here in the future\, and how Greener Kirkcaldy should get involved. \nYour ideas will play a key role in informing Greener Kirkcaldy’s future planning\, and will also feed into the new Love Oor Lang Toun group’s plans and the Fife Free Press’s Civic Conversation series. \n  \nBooking Information \nThe event will take place on Zoom (with regular comfort breaks!). It’s free to attend\, but booking is required as places are limited. \nJoining details will be sent round on the day of the event. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Cafe – July (online)
DESCRIPTION:Be part of tackling climate change – join us for monthly films\, guest speakers and discussions.\n\n\nThis month we will be hosting an online event: a film showing of the 2015 film Inhabit: A Permaculture Perspective\, followed by an online discussion. \nInhabit explores the many environmental issues facing us today and visits people and projects that are overcoming these problems by applying permaculture solutions – working with nature rather than against it to utilise natural resources\, regenerate areas and local communities\, and create resilience. From homes and household waste\, to community gardens and small holdings\, Inhabit takes the viewer on a tour of a variety of local projects\, showcasing unique solutions\, and sharing the inspired ideas and individuals who created them. \nWatch at home with us on Wednesday 1st July\, then join with others in the local community for our live post-film discussion. \n\n  \nBooking Information \nThe film showing and discussion is free but booking is required as places are limited. \nWe’ll send out a joining link to attendees to allow them to join on the day. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.
