Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nBring your own project and sew with others at our new fortnightly ‘Sew and Chat’ group. \nWhether you’re struggling a bit with a project and looking for advice\, or just want to meet new people and sew in a group\, we’ll be meeting every other Wednesday for a fun evening with lots of chat\, tea and biscuits\, and\, of course\, plenty of sewing! \nAll abilities welcome. Bring your own project (including your materials\, threads etc.) to work on. It can be anything from the basics to ballgowns! It’s a social evening\, so there’s no formal teaching\, but our sewing tutor\, Gabbi\,will be on hand for guidance\, advice and help. \nWe’ll have some sewing machines available for people to use. SUMMARY:Monthly Climate Cafe - December
DESCRIPTION:Our climate cafe is a new monthly event to bring people together and inspire sustainable living. We’ll have guest speakers\, films and discussions and together we’ll explore ways we can help reach Scotland’s goal of net zero emissions by 2045. \nRefreshments will be provided. \nOur theme for December is the creation of winter traditions and behaviours and how these fit or conflict with low carbon living. We’ll discuss how to cut our carbon footprint at Christmas (6% of our annual carbon footprint is generated from just 3 days at Christmas)\, how our carbon emissions increase in winter but adopting examples other cultures could help us to reduce these\, and finish with looking at what culture we would like to create within our local community by feeding into Fife Council’s Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (2020-2030)\, which is currently open for consultation until 9th December \n  \nBooking Information\nThe event is free\, but booking is required as spaces are limited. \nIf you have any problems booking\, or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk

SUMMARY:Greener Kirkcaldy 10th Anniversary Celebration Ceilidh
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the eve of Scotland’s national saint St Andrew\, to celebrate 10 years of Greener Kirkcaldy. We love an excuse to have a party\, so please join us at a traditional\, family friendly ceilidh with music provided by local award winning accordionist James Coutts and his band\, and some special guests. If you don’t know your Strip the Willow from your Dashing White Sergeant\, he’ll guide you through every step. Don’t worry if you’ve never been to a ceilidh before\, we just want you to have fun and help us celebrate.  \nThere will be a cash only bar with a selection of beers and wines\, as well as soft drinks. We’ll be serving a supper of Haggis Stovies and homemade tablet. You can also try your luck in our prize raffle – we’ll be selling tickets on the night (cash only). Keep an eye out on our website as we reveal our raffle prizes. \nDoors open at 7.30pm with dancing starting at 8pm. We’ll break for supper at 8.45pm\, announce raffle winners at 9.15 and resume dancing after that. SUMMARY:Rag Rugging Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join textile expert Morag Platt for a workshop on rag rugging. Rag work used to be common in rural\, mining and fishing communities where every scrap of fabric had to be reused in some way. This traditional craft involves hooking or prodding strips of fabric into a mesh (usually hessian) base\, and can be used to recycle textiles into rugs\, wall-hangings\, bags\, cushion covers\, pictures and many other household objects. \nThis session will show examples of rag work items and introduce the basic techniques. You will start your own piece of rug which you can then take home and finish. All materials and equipment will be provided. DESCRIPTION:“We are heading for a Low Carbon Scotland… but how do we get there?” \nTo address this question\, the Scottish Government launched a nationwide Big Climate Conversation this summer\, asking people to come together locally to discuss their thoughts on climate change and what steps we need to take\, together\, to tackle the global climate emergency. \nFeedback from these conversations will be used to help the Scottish Government update its policies and the shape the changes we will all need to make to help Scotland reach its target of net zero emissions by 2045. \nIn the first of our monthly climate cafes\, we’ll use the Big Climate Conversation to examine the Scottish Governments’ proposed measures\, discuss how to incorporate them into their everyday lives\, map our local aspirations and challenges onto the national strategy\, and share our collective response with the government. \n  \nOur climate cafe is a new monthly event to bring people together and inspire sustainable living. DESCRIPTION:We are all guilty of throwing out unwanted clothes and textiles for one reason or another… too big\, too small\, old fashioned etc. A lot the time we actually still like the fabric… so why not upcycle it into something you can use instead? \nA coat or jacket can be made into a stylish bag\, a jumper into a cardigan\, a man’s shirt into a child’s summer dress. Come along to our workshop and our experienced sewing tutor\, Gabbi will teach you the skills to change your old garment into something you will re-love. \nAll sewing equipment and machines provided. DESCRIPTION:Further to the Government’s recent update on COVID-19\, we have taken the decision to postpone all of our events from now until the 15th May. Full refunds will be given. \nWe are reviewing the situation daily and will give regular updates on future events\, including new dates for postponed events. \nBring your own project and sew with others at our new fortnightly ‘Sew and Chat’ group. \nWhether you’re struggling a bit with a project and looking for advice\, or just want to meet new people and sew in a group\, we’ll be meeting every other Wednesday for a fun evening with lots of chat\, tea and biscuits\, and\, of course\, plenty of sewing! \nAll abilities welcome. Bring your own project (including your materials\, threads etc.) to work on. It can be anything from the basics to ballgowns! It’s a social evening\, so there’s no formal teaching\, but our sewing tutor\, Gabbi\,will be on hand for guidance\, advice and help. \nWe’ll have some sewing machines available for people to use.
