SUMMARY:Taste of Morocco
DESCRIPTION:Moroccan cuisine has a variety of influences due to trading with other cultures over the centuries. We can see the influence of Arab\, Andalucian and Berber cultures\, using locally produced fruit\, vegetables\, grain\, seafood and meat. Spices are warm rather than hot and include ras el hanout. Saffron and herbs are used liberally\, salads feature at all meals and mint tea is often drunk at the end of a meal. \n \nIn our workshop we are making three authentic Moroccan dishes: \n\nHarira – a fragrant soup made with chickpeas and lentils\nTagine with couscous – a vegetable or chicken tagine served with traditional couscous\nBissara – a dip made with broad beans\n\nWe will also demonstrate how to make preserved lemons – a classic flavouring in Morocco. \nOur workshops are fun and informal\, our tutors will support you to prepare the recipes. We’ll chat about the Moroccan way of eating\, and we’ll try some mint tea to complete the experience. \nAll recipes are suitable for vegetarians. Please note wheat and dairy will be used in the workshop\, but we can adapt if we are able. SUMMARY:Climate Friendly Gardens – winter fruit tree pruning and care
DESCRIPTION:Pruning your apple and pear trees in winter encourages growth and creates a more productive fruit tree. Without cutting back\, trees can become congested and produce less fruit.  \nBetween November and March\, the trees are dormant\, and the lack of leaves means you can better see the structure and shape of your tree. You will learn how to maintain established trees\, remove dead and diseased wood and reduce crowded growth increasing the vigour of your tree in spring.  \nWe start with some fruit tree basic knowledge then move on to the orchard for some practical skills.  \nWe are excited to have Andrew Lear\, Appletreeman leading the workshop. Andrew is a highly experienced fruit tree expert with wide-ranging expertise. He puts 40 years of horticultural knowledge into practice by teaching and advising orchard groups and owners throughout Scotland and propagating heritage varieties of fruit. \nTaking place at Greener Kirkcaldy’s community garden and orchard based in Ravenscraig Walled Garden\, this workshop is free as part of Climate Action Fife thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund. \nThis event is suitable for beginners. This practical workshop will be mostly outdoors but with some initial theory inside the onsite cabin. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided\, please feel free to bring your own lunch. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing for the weather \nGardening gloves are recommended\, please bring a pair with you. Equipment and tools will be provided. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility\n\nThere are disabled parking spaces on site. Please note the terrain is mostly flat and the paths are gravel. The venue is outdoors with the exception of the working cabin. \nThis event will usually take place in the orchard area of our gardens which is not recommended for wheelchairs due to steep access and narrow and uneven pathways\, let us know if you would have issues getting the the orchard area as we can adapt the workshop to take place in a more accessible area.

SUMMARY:Celebrating community ownership - what next for Kirkcaldy? Our Annual Gathering and AGM
DESCRIPTION:Our Annual Gathering is a celebration of community ownership! \nThis year Greener Kirkcaldy celebrates five years of owning our community building at 8 East Fergus Place. There are plenty of opportunities to discuss new ideas for the future of the town. \nWe also look forward to welcoming our guest speakers Alastair McIntosh and Mark White. And we will take the opportunity to celebrate our amazing volunteers who bring a true sense of community to our building and Greener Kirkcaldy as a whole. \nAt the gathering\, we want to look to the future for Kirkcaldy and inspire new ideas in the community. The event takes place in the Advantage Suite of the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy. \nSpeakers\nWe are excited to welcome two guest speakers to this year’s gathering. \nAlastair McIntosh\, writer\, academic and activist – Alastair is best known for his work on community empowerment\, human ecology and poverty of body and soul. His books include Soil and Soul on land reform\, Poacher’s Pilgrimage on spirituality and Riders on the Storm on climate change. Raised in the Isle of Lewis\, he has lived in Govan for the past twenty years. He is a founding Trustee of the GalGael Trust and an honorary professor in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow. \nMark White from the Leslie Town Hall Project –  Mark has been a member of Leslie Amateur Drama Club since moving to Scotland in the early 2000s. He is the main driving force behind the Leslie Town Hall Project in Leslie\, near Glenrothes. Mark relishes the challenge of refurbishing the Town Hall and making it a welcoming arts and community centre at the heart of the local community. \nAnnual General Meeting\nThe event will begin with our AGM. You can view the agenda and papers below. You can also see a paper copy of these documents at 8 East Fergus Place. \nAgenda (pdf) \nMinutes of our previous AGM (pdf) \nProposed changes to our constitution (pdf) \nOnly members can vote in the AGM.
