SUMMARY:Climate Friendly Gardens - Summer fruit tree pruning workshop
DESCRIPTION:Come along to learn how and why we prune fruit trees in summer. This is important care for trees including plums and apricots. Specially trained forms of apples and pears including espalier and stepovers are pruned in summer too. \nThe workshop includes some theory\, a look at which tools to use\, and hands-on practice in our community orchard at Ravenscraig Walled Garden. \nWe encourage you to bring along photographs of any fruit trees you might have in your garden or community growing space that you would like to ask questions about. \nThis workshop is led by our own community gardener Kit Cubitt. Kit has many years’ experience working with different types of fruit trees in orchards and community gardens. \nThe session includes a break for a hot drink\, biscuits and discussion. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility\n\nThere are disabled parking spaces on site. \nPart of this session takes place in the community orchard\, which includes some uneven ground and grass paths. SUMMARY:Big spring plant and seed swap
DESCRIPTION:Come and swap your seedlings with other gardeners! \nWe’ve all been there – sow a whole packet of tomato seeds and end up with 20 plants of the same variety and you only have space to plant 5 of them! \nWhy not bring down your spare plants and swap them with other gardeners\, to end up with more variety and less plants going to waste. \nThis could be fruit\, veg\, edible\, ornamental or houseplants to tiny seedlings or big established plants. Even if you don’t have anything to swap but would like to take home some plants\, we will be growing some extras to give away with the option of giving a donation to cover costs. Feel free to bring in any seeds you have saved from your garden\, or packets you won’t get round to sowing. \nOn the day\, we will set out plants by type\, aiming to have everything to be swapped laid out by 7pm; and then have 10 minutes of viewing before the swapping begins! We recommend pots rather than trays\, even eggboxes or yoghurt pots can work. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. DESCRIPTION:Come and spend a Saturday morning with us at Ravenscraig Walled Gardens and learn about organic growing through a hands-on session working in the garden together. Activities will vary from week to week\, but might include planting\, weeding or harvesting. \nNo experience is necessary\, and we welcome you to come to as many or as few sessions as you would like. \nSessions will include a brief introduction to the garden and health and safety briefing; a range of activities relating to growing fruit\, veg and flowers\, as well as a break for refreshments\, and plenty of chat! \nWe want these sessions to be as accessible as possible\, and can adapt tasks to different requirements. Please let us know any accessibility requirements in advance if possible. \nUnder 18s must be accompanied by an adult\, and are the responsibility of the adult. \nPlease dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. If you have your own gardening gloves please bring them. In the event of severe weather we will let participants know if we need to cancel the session. \nAccessibility\n\nThere are accessible parking spaces on site. Please note the terrain is mostly flat and the paths are gravel. The venue is outdoors with the exception of the working cabin. \nSome work may be done in the orchard area of our gardens which is not recommended for wheelchairs due to steep access and narrow and uneven pathways\, let us know if you would have issues getting the the orchard area as we can adapt the session to take place in a more accessible area. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.
