SUMMARY:Love and hope - Community Land Festival activities
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate five years of community ownership of our building at East Fergus Place we are holding two activities in our Welcome Area this October. This drop-in event is one of a series of events taking place across Scotland in October as part of the Community Land Festival\, which celebrates community landowners (communities that own land or buildings) and their achievements. \nThe first activity invites you to write and post a letter to our community building\, sharing what our community building means to you\, the difference it’s made to the community\, and why you love it! All you have to do is follow the template and fill in the gaps. \nWith the second activity\, we would love for you to share your hopes for the next 100 years and help us build a wall of hope and a picture of what we want Scotland to look like in a century. \nThis is a chance to let us know your feelings about Greener Kirkcaldy. Your thoughts\, hopes and ideas are important to us and help us plan future projects. We look forward to bringing everyone’s thoughts together and sharing them within our team when planning new projects and in a blog on our website later this year. We will also discuss your ideas and hopes for the future of Greener Kirkcaldy and Kirkcaldy as a whole at our Annual Gathering and AGM. \nAll you need to do to take part in our ‘Love and Hope’ activities is pop into Greener Kirkcaldy during our opening hours\, any day between Monday 21st October and Friday 1st November. This event is free to attend – donations are welcome. \nDirections and opening hours. \nCan’t make it in? You can also take part in the letter writing activity online throughout the Community Land Festival\, which runs from 18th October to 3rd November.

We hope you will leave the event inspired to help protect the environment and become more active in local environmental projects. \n\n\n \n\n\nLuna is visiting Kirkcaldy Esplanade from 5:30pm – 8:30pm. As well as meeting Luna and taking part in a bit of moongazing\, there will be fun activities for all ages to get involved in. \n\n \nAbout Climate Action Fife\nClimate Action Fife is a project that is bringing together local authority and public sector\, businesses\, third sector\, communities and individuals to work together to make the region a greener and fairer place to live.  \nClimate Action Fife is funded by a £2\,102\,234 grant through The National Lottery Community Fund’s £100 million Climate Action Fund\, which supports community groups tackling climate change and taking action to protect our planet. SUMMARY:Off-road cycling skills coaching
DESCRIPTION:Starting from the basics\, develop your cycling skills to more confidently take on rougher off-road routes on your mountain or gravel bike. \nThis event is part of the Kirkcaldy Cycling Festival and is free thanks to funding from Smarter Choices Smarter Places. Attendees at the event will have the opportunity to enter the Kirkcaldy Cycling Festival prize draw. \nThe 3-hour session will cover three main core principles of better off-road riding: \nReady position and dynamic movement – riding out of the saddle and moving your weight smooths the trail and allow you to ride easier over rough ground \nCornering – steering and cornering off-road come with their own challenges – looser\, softer surfaces require a bit more thought and planning. We will cover essential approaches to allow you to corner with confidence \nFront wheel lifts – the ability to unweight and even lift your front wheel over trail features and obstacles not only look cool but makes your riding smoother and less fatiguing overall. \nLang Toun Cycles’ Project Manager David Glover is leading these events. David is an experienced mountainbiker\, racer and multi-day bikepacker. He has a Mountain Bike Leader qualification and has a UKCC Level 2 MTB (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate Level 2 Mountain Bike). \nYou will be in safe and capable hands and have the opportunity to increase your confidence riding off-road. \n Additional Information\nYou must be over 16 to take part. \nPlease note that this event is weather-dependent. \nPlease bring sufficient fluid and snacks to keep you going for up to 3 hours of riding \nPlease make sure your bike is roadworthy before coming and note that helmets are mandatory on this ride. \nYour bike must be an off-road capable bicycle in safe working order. This can be either a mountain bike with minimum 1.75 inch wide knobbly tyres\, or a cross/gravel bike with minimum 35mm wide knobbly tyre. \nRiders are also to bring at least one spare inner tube that is the correct size for their bike. Ask in-store at Lang Toun Cycles if you need advice. \nPlease wear appropriate clothes for cycling and the weather on the day. We will carry out basic bike checks at the start of the ride. \nBooking Instructions \nThe event is free but booking is required. \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance.
