SUMMARY:Film screening: Together We Grow
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a film screening and chat in our community building as part of the Community Land Festival. \nWe are screening Together We Grow by Happen Films. The film follows a community organisation based in New Zealand called Common Unity. Despite being on the other side of the world their values and work reflect what we are trying to do right here in Kirkcaldy and can inspire us in future projects. \nAfter the screening there will be time for discussion and chat about the themes of the films. \nWe will be providing light snacks and refreshments. \nAbout the film \nWhat do you get when you combine a community cafe\, a community grocer and a community bike works? Plus a repair cafe\, a sewing workshop\, garden sharing\, and a honey-making enterprise? \nCommon Unity! A truly wonderful example of the importance of the community in tackling issues like social isolation and food insecurity. And in building the social connections and social relationships so important to health and life. \nIn Together We Grow we get to know a group of community members doing the important work of caring for others and building community resilience. It’s a community hub of learning\, support\, creativity\, joy\, sharing and shared interest\, all in one place. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. There is a ramp into the building and level access throughout. There is also an accessible toilet. Learn more about how to get to us and the accessibility of the building. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Big spring plant and seed swap
DESCRIPTION:Come and swap your seedlings with other gardeners! \nWe’ve all been there – sow a whole packet of tomato seeds and end up with 20 plants of the same variety and you only have space to plant 5 of them! \nWhy not bring down your spare plants and swap them with other gardeners\, to end up with more variety and less plants going to waste. \nThis could be fruit\, veg\, edible\, ornamental or houseplants to tiny seedlings or big established plants. Even if you don’t have anything to swap but would like to take home some plants\, we will be growing some extras to give away with the option of giving a donation to cover costs. Feel free to bring in any seeds you have saved from your garden\, or packets you won’t get round to sowing. \nOn the day\, we will set out plants by type\, aiming to have everything to be swapped laid out by 7pm; and then have 10 minutes of viewing before the swapping begins! We recommend pots rather than trays\, even eggboxes or yoghurt pots can work. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions or would like the resources at the event to be in large print please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Nature and nurture walks - Ravenscraig Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk through Ravenscraig Park\, enjoying the natural beauty as the seasons change. The gentle walk will take in the beautiful park and the coast around Ravenscraig/Dysart. At the end of the walk there will be optional time for chat and coffee at the Harbourmaster’s Cafe in Dysart. \nWe’ll pass near the Ravenscraig Walled Garden so Greener Kirkcaldy garden volunteers are welcome to join us on the way to their volunteering session. \nThese are drop-in walks so there is no need to book\, just come along and meet us! These walks are led by volunteer walk leader Tina. \nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this walk is weather-dependent. In the event of forecast adverse weather\, we will decide whether to go ahead with the walk and announce the cancellation on Facebook \nParticipants should be able to walk 2 miles at a leisurely pace. The route is mostly flat with some steeper sections/steps\, on paths\, tracks and the beach. \nPlease wear appropriate clothes for the weather. \nUnder 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs please. \nMeet Tina\n \nTina grew up on the west coast of Scotland\, studied at various universities across the UK and had an early career as a Biochemical engineer. She left it all to live on the Isle of Mull and had an idyllic life there as an organic gardener among other things then eventually came back to the mainland to retrain. She graduated in Fine art in 2018 and developed an ecological contemporary art practice.  \nThe regular walks in the park have a light focus on healing from trauma and anxiety. They will be a little bit more mindful and attentive than the usual noisy\, chatty conversational walks. They aim to be nurturing. \n“Walking is a significant component of my contemporary art practice which aims to deepen our connection with the natural world. I have proposed these walks because I feel it is importantly for us to develop a growing relationship with a place and get to know it in all its moods and seasons.”  \nAccessibility Information\nThe route is unsuitable for wheelchairs / pushchairs due to the terrain. There is accessible parking at Ravenscraig Park and public toilets available in the park.

SUMMARY:Festive film screening: Happy Feet
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a family-friendly screening of 2006 film Happy Feet\, shown on the large screen in our community building. Juice and snacks are included. \nWe will also have some fun activities. You can colour in and invent and name your own penguin. You can also add a drawing of what makes your heart sing to our mural! The switch-on takes place shortly after this event at 4pm on the High Street\, just a five-minute walk from our building. \nAbout the film\nEmperor penguins are born to sing. SUMMARY:Love and hope - Community Land Festival activities
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate five years of community ownership of our building at East Fergus Place we are holding two activities in our Welcome Area this October. This drop-in event is one of a series of events taking place across Scotland in October as part of the Community Land Festival\, which celebrates community landowners (communities that own land or buildings) and their achievements. \nThe first activity invites you to write and post a letter to our community building\, sharing what our community building means to you\, the difference it’s made to the community\, and why you love it! All you have to do is follow the template and fill in the gaps. \nWith the second activity\, we would love for you to share your hopes for the next 100 years and help us build a wall of hope and a picture of what we want Scotland to look like in a century. \nThis is a chance to let us know your feelings about Greener Kirkcaldy. Your thoughts\, hopes and ideas are important to us and help us plan future projects. We look forward to bringing everyone’s thoughts together and sharing them within our team when planning new projects and in a blog on our website later this year. We will also discuss your ideas and hopes for the future of Greener Kirkcaldy and Kirkcaldy as a whole at our Annual Gathering and AGM. \nAll you need to do to take part in our ‘Love and Hope’ activities is pop into Greener Kirkcaldy during our opening hours\, any day between Monday 21st October and Friday 1st November. This event is free to attend – donations are welcome. \nDirections and opening hours. \nCan’t make it in? You can also take part in the letter writing activity online throughout the Community Land Festival\, which runs from 18th October to 3rd November.
