SUMMARY:Orchard Blossom Day picnic
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a picnic under the (hopefully!) blossoming apple trees in our Community Orchard at Ravenscraig Walled Garden. \nBring your own picnic\, to gather with us under our fruit trees in Ravenscraig Walled Garden\, celebrate the natural markers of the spring and coming summer and learn about pollinators. \nWe will have some exciting blossom-based snacks for you to try\, as well as craft activities suitable for all ages. \nWe will provide hot and cold drinks\, as well as some snacks. \nWhilst we have chosen a date when we hope our apple trees will be in full blossom\, you can’t stop the spring! We will celebrate the changing season regardless of the stage of blossom that the trees have reached. \nNo booking required; just drop in on the day! \nBring a blanket to sit on if you have one and your own picnic to eat together under the trees. May can still be chilly so we’d recommend layers! \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking spaces on site. Please note the terrain is mostly flat and the paths are gravel. The venue is outdoors with the exception of the working cabin. \nThis event is taking place in the orchard area of our gardens which is not recommended for wheelchairs due to steep access and narrow and uneven pathways. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk. \n

SUMMARY:Collage book making workshop - Kirkcaldy past\, present\, future
DESCRIPTION:Join us as part of a series of workshops the Lang Toun Partners are hosting to gather the views and ideas of local people in creative ways for Kirkcaldy’s bid for UK Town of Culture 2028. \nThis workshop is led by local artist Vanessa Gibson and uses drawing\, collage\, writing and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy through time. Learn more about Vanessa and her work at vanessagibson.co.uk \nWe also invite you to join our Community Meal before the event at 5pm. If you would like to join us\, there will be a question in the booking form where you can let us know. \nAbout the workshop\nParticipants will collaborate to create a community artist storybook responding to the town’s past\, present\, and imagined future\, working intuitively rather than technically. The focus is on mark-making\, colour\, textures\, and personal responses. \nThe workshop will include writing/sketching exercises using local images\, maps\, and words to introduce the theme of time and place. We’ll use bold mark-making\, words and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy as it is now. We’ll then move on to imagine your own future Kirkcaldy. \nThe aim is for each participant to produce a couple of small artworks\, which will contribute to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. The artworks will be laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nOutcome\nEach participant produces at least three artworks\, gaining confidence in expressive art-making and self expression while contributing to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. Works are laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is recommended; you can also drop in on the day if you prefer. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. If you plan to drop in on the day but would still like to book in for the 5pm sitting at our Community Meal at 5pm please call 01592 858 458 during our office hours to book. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. There is a ramp into the building and level access throughout. SUMMARY:Community orchard Wassail
DESCRIPTION:Come down to our Community Garden and Orchard on old twelfth night to celebrate our apple trees and join in a centuries old tradition of wassailing. Wassailing is the custom of visiting orchards and singing to the trees to promote a good harvest for the coming year. \nThis event is family and dog friendly (although some might not enjoy the clattering of pots and pans!) \nYou’ll have the chance to make an evergreen crown to wear then join revellers in a procession up to the orchard\, led by our Wassail queen\, storyteller Mrs Mash. \nGather around the trees and place pieces of toast in its branches to entice robins\, the guardians of the orchard. \nWe will pour cider around the roots of the trees – and make a racket with pots and pans to ward off any evil spirits and wake the trees from their winter sleep. \nJoin in with singing or just listen as we serenade the trees with traditional songs. \nFinally taste the wassail drink\, which is usually a local ale or cider blended with honey and spices. We will have mulled apple juice for all ages to enjoy. \nThis event is free to attend and there is no need to book\, just come along on the day. \nAccessibility information\nThere are accessible parking spaces on site. Please note the terrain is mostly flat and the paths are gravel. The venue is outdoors with the exception of the working cabin. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.

SUMMARY:Big spring plant and seed swap
DESCRIPTION:Come and swap your seedlings with other gardeners! \nWe’ve all been there – sow a whole packet of tomato seeds and end up with 20 plants of the same variety and you only have space to plant 5 of them! \nWhy not bring down your spare plants and swap them with other gardeners\, to end up with more variety and less plants going to waste. \nThis could be fruit\, veg\, edible\, ornamental or houseplants to tiny seedlings or big established plants. Even if you don’t have anything to swap but would like to take home some plants\, we will be growing some extras to give away with the option of giving a donation to cover costs. Feel free to bring in any seeds you have saved from your garden\, or packets you won’t get round to sowing. \nOn the day\, we will set out plants by type\, aiming to have everything to be swapped laid out by 7pm; and then have 10 minutes of viewing before the swapping begins! We recommend pots rather than trays\, even eggboxes or yoghurt pots can work. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is required. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. SUMMARY:Nature and nurture walks - Ravenscraig Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk through Ravenscraig Park\, enjoying the natural beauty as the seasons change. The gentle walk will take in the beautiful park and the coast around Ravenscraig/Dysart. At the end of the walk there will be optional time for chat and coffee at the Harbourmaster’s Cafe in Dysart. \nWe’ll pass near the Ravenscraig Walled Garden so Greener Kirkcaldy garden volunteers are welcome to join us on the way to their volunteering session. \nThese are drop-in walks so there is no need to book\, just come along and meet us! These walks are led by volunteer walk leader Tina. \nAdditional Information\nPlease note that this walk is weather-dependent. In the event of forecast adverse weather\, we will decide whether to go ahead with the walk and announce the cancellation on Facebook \nParticipants should be able to walk 2 miles at a leisurely pace. The route is mostly flat with some steeper sections/steps\, on paths\, tracks and the beach. \nPlease wear appropriate clothes for the weather. \nUnder 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs please. \nMeet Tina\n \nTina grew up on the west coast of Scotland\, studied at various universities across the UK and had an early career as a Biochemical engineer. She left it all to live on the Isle of Mull and had an idyllic life there as an organic gardener among other things then eventually came back to the mainland to retrain. She graduated in Fine art in 2018 and developed an ecological contemporary art practice.  \nThe regular walks in the park have a light focus on healing from trauma and anxiety. They will be a little bit more mindful and attentive than the usual noisy\, chatty conversational walks. They aim to be nurturing. \n“Walking is a significant component of my contemporary art practice which aims to deepen our connection with the natural world. I have proposed these walks because I feel it is importantly for us to develop a growing relationship with a place and get to know it in all its moods and seasons.”  \nAccessibility Information\nThe route is unsuitable for wheelchairs / pushchairs due to the terrain. There is accessible parking at Ravenscraig Park and public toilets available in the park.
