SUMMARY:Waterfront Walkabout - Evening session
DESCRIPTION:Come along and help develop ideas for greener\, more welcoming spaces along Kirkcaldy’s Waterfront. \nAt these interactive events\, we’ll work together to explore how green and public spaces along the Waterfront could be improved and used differently – creating places that work better for the people who live in\, work in and visit Kirkcaldy. \nWe’ll build on what people have already told us through earlier conversations and consultation events. We’ll bring along some initial ideas and visuals to get the conversation started\, but nothing is set in stone. We want to hear your ideas\, local knowledge and what you think would make the Waterfront greener\, more attractive and a better place to spend time. \nWe’ll take a closer look at four spaces: \n\nBasin car park\nEsplanade car park A\nThe raised platform opposite Volunteers Green\nThe area opposite the leisure centre\n\nThere will also be plenty of opportunity to think about the Waterfront more widely and share ideas for other spaces\, connections and improvements along the area. \nYou don’t need any previous knowledge or experience to take part – just come along with your ideas\, experiences and knowledge of Kirkcaldy. \nWe’re running a daytime and an evening session to give people a choice. Both will follow the same format\, so come along to whichever suits you best. We’ll be holding more events in different locations across Kirkcaldy over the autumn too. \nA community greenspace strategy for Kirkcaldy\nThese events are part of a wider project to create a community Greenspace Strategy for Kirkcaldy. We want to work with people across the town to identify how Kirkcaldy’s green and public spaces could be improved\, better connected and used in ways that benefit our communities. We’re starting with the Waterfront\, but this is just the beginning. We’ll be holding more events in different locations across Kirkcaldy over the next few months\, with opportunities to talk about green spaces in other parts of the town and help develop ideas for them too. \nBooking Information\nThis event is free and booking is encouraged to help us get an idea of numbers. You can also drop in to the event on the day. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. These help us learn more about the people we reach through our events. Any information you choose to share about your background is managed separately to information that you give us to process your booking (for example\, your name). \nIf you are having trouble booking you can call 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk for assistance. \nAccessibility\nThe event is taking place outdoors\, so please come dressed for the weather. We will walk along the Waterfront at a leisurely pace. The Prom is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Collage book making workshop - Kirkcaldy past\, present\, future
DESCRIPTION:Join us as part of a series of workshops the Lang Toun Partners are hosting to gather the views and ideas of local people in creative ways for Kirkcaldy’s bid for UK Town of Culture 2028. \nThis workshop is led by local artist Vanessa Gibson and uses drawing\, collage\, writing and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy through time. Learn more about Vanessa and her work at vanessagibson.co.uk \nWe also invite you to join our Community Meal before the event at 5pm. If you would like to join us\, there will be a question in the booking form where you can let us know. \nAbout the workshop\nParticipants will collaborate to create a community artist storybook responding to the town’s past\, present\, and imagined future\, working intuitively rather than technically. The focus is on mark-making\, colour\, textures\, and personal responses. \nThe workshop will include writing/sketching exercises using local images\, maps\, and words to introduce the theme of time and place. We’ll use bold mark-making\, words and mixed media to explore Kirkcaldy as it is now. We’ll then move on to imagine your own future Kirkcaldy. \nThe aim is for each participant to produce a couple of small artworks\, which will contribute to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. The artworks will be laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nOutcome\nEach participant produces at least three artworks\, gaining confidence in expressive art-making and self expression while contributing to a shared visual exploration of Kirkcaldy across time. Works are laid out together to form a visual timeline which is videoed/photographed. These works will then be presented in the form of a collaborative artist book created by Vanessa Gibson. \nBooking Information\nThe event is free but booking is recommended; you can also drop in on the day if you prefer. You can choose to purchase a ticket with a donation. Donations help us do more work in our community. If you plan to drop in on the day but would still like to book in for the 5pm sitting at our Community Meal at 5pm please call 01592 858 458 during our office hours to book. \nOur booking form includes a series of optional anonymous questions. SUMMARY:Community orchard Wassail
DESCRIPTION:Come down to our Community Garden and Orchard on old twelfth night to celebrate our apple trees and join in a centuries old tradition of wassailing. Wassailing is the custom of visiting orchards and singing to the trees to promote a good harvest for the coming year. \nThis event is family and dog friendly (although some might not enjoy the clattering of pots and pans!) \nYou’ll have the chance to make an evergreen crown to wear then join revellers in a procession up to the orchard\, led by our Wassail queen\, storyteller Mrs Mash. \nGather around the trees and place pieces of toast in its branches to entice robins\, the guardians of the orchard. \nWe will pour cider around the roots of the trees – and make a racket with pots and pans to ward off any evil spirits and wake the trees from their winter sleep. \nJoin in with singing or just listen as we serenade the trees with traditional songs. \nFinally taste the wassail drink\, which is usually a local ale or cider blended with honey and spices. We will have mulled apple juice for all ages to enjoy. \nThis event is free to attend and there is no need to book\, just come along on the day. \nAccessibility information\nThere are accessible parking spaces on site. Please note the terrain is mostly flat and the paths are gravel. The venue is outdoors with the exception of the working cabin. \nIf you have any other accessibility questions please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk.
