SUMMARY:Film screening: Offshore
DESCRIPTION:Offshore is an independent documentary that brings together varying perspectives on working in offshore oil and gas and renewable energy – and explores what the coming energy transition means for workers and communities around the North Sea. \nThe film looks at how communities and regions have been impacted by past industrial decline\, the risks workers face in an increasingly precarious industry and how they can organise for the future. \n \nOFFSHORE | Documentary trailer \nThe climate crisis means we must rethink our energy systems: where we get energy from\, how it’s produced and who benefits from it. Workforces and communities all over the UK will be impacted by the energy transition and have the potential to benefit from more publicly owned\, local and renewable energy. \nFollowing the 20-minute documentary\, we will have time to discuss the film and the Just Transition in Scotland and Fife. \nBooking information\nThis film screening is free to attend\, but spaces are limited so booking is required. \nIf you have any problems booking or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk \nAccessibility\nThere are accessible parking bays available outside 8 East Fergus Place. SUMMARY:Climate action for all (online)
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop is for Fife-based community groups and community leaders who are not already engaging their communities on climate action\, but who would like to start. \nWe will discuss the effects of climate change on Fifers\, the action your communities could take and the benefits of doing so\, and will share examples of what is already happening around Fife. \nIf you are reading this and thinking “climate change… that’s not something we talk about” then you are exactly the person we want to speak to! \nClimate change impacts us all\, so why not come and find out what your community could be doing to take action. \nYou do not have to know anything about climate change to take part. These workshops are not about knowing the answers\, but rather about getting a conversation going\, discovering answers and working together to make Fife a greener and fairer place to live. \nBooking information \nThis workshop is free to attend\, but spaces are limited so booking is required. \nIf you have any problems booking or any questions\, please phone 01592 858458 or email info@greenerkirkcaldy.org.uk

SUMMARY:Climate Friendly Gardening - Healthy Soil
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be led by Dr Liz Lakin\, a senior lecturer at the University of Dundee and the Academic Lead for the Living Lab at Dundee Botanic Garden. \nHealthy soil is essential to produce the fruit\, cereal and vegetables we eat. Soil also stores carbon by locking in greenhouse gases\, helping to reduce our impact on climate change. \nKnowing about soil and what it needs will help you produce bumper crops and vigorous plants. Learning to use natural improvement methods will save time and money\, plus you will create a healthy habitat for thousands of different species of fungi\, bacteria and invertebrates that in turn support and maintain your soil. \nAt the workshop we will learn about the different types of soil\, why the chemistry of soil is important and do some testing. We’ll also discuss ways to improve your soil and give an overview of the important elements of a healthy soil. \n* To get the best from the workshop please bring along a soil sample from your own garden or an area you use for growing. Place some soil in a medium sized jar\, about 1/3\, then fill up with water and leave to settle. Ideally\, do this 2 weeks before. \nAbout our tutor\, Dr Liz Lakin: Trained originally as a school biology teacher\, Liz continues her teaching and research in biology and environmental science at Dundee. She has a keen interest in all things to do with plants. \nThis event is suitable for beginners. Drinks will be provided.
