Autumn is a great time to use local fruit to make cakes and bakes, and to experiment with chutneys and pickles.
This workshop will use ripe apples and pears from our orchard to make delicious treats and preserves for using over the winter. We have over 70 varieties fruit trees growing in our orchard, many of which are Scottish including two from Fife. With our warm and moist climate Scottish apples are some of the tastiest you can find.
On our fun and informative workshop, you’ll learn some basic recipes that you can then adapt at home to create a variety of options.
-
Apple cinnamon buns – taking the classic cinnamon buns to a new level!
-
Pear and chocolate tart – an indulgent treat for special occasions
-
Apple and squash chutney – pairing apples with seasonal squash to make a tasty preserve
We’ll look at the ingredients and techniques – and basic principles so you can adapt recipes the to include variations. We’ll discuss ingredients and techniques to ensure you are confident and inspired.
The course is hands-on – we’ll make our creations from scratch. There will be time to discuss, taste and compare notes.
The course is suitable for beginners and people with some experience interested in trying out something new. Please bring 2 large boxes to take home your creations.
Some cooking skills are required to enjoy this workshop, such as basic knife skills.
All recipes are suitable for vegetarians and can be adapted for vegans. Please note wheat and dairy will be used in the workshop. If you have any dietary requirements or queries about the ingredients used in the workshop, please let us know when you are booking.
